Rear Magnetic Number Plate Holder Kit
Mount your rear number plate without ever putting a drill into your boot lid. This
rear magnetic number plate holder kit includes 4 plastic brackets, each with
magnets built directly into them — no separate magnet set to fit behind any panel,
because on most cars the boot lid or crash bar itself is metal, and that’s exactly
what the brackets attract to.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
Unlike our Front Kit, which needs one set of magnets behind the bumper and another
on the plate, this rear kit is simpler: 4 plastic brackets, magnets built in, done.
Each bracket is lined with a strong adhesive tape on the plate-facing side and a
1.0mm neoprene foam layer on the boot-facing side, so the magnet never touches your
paintwork directly. That foam cleans easily with warm soapy water and a microfibre
cloth.
HOW FITTING WORKS
For the vast majority of cars, the rear number plate mounts onto a metal boot lid or
a hidden steel crash bar — and if that’s the case for your vehicle, this kit sticks
directly onto it. No removing the boot lid, no dismantling anything. You attach the
brackets to the back of your plate, offer it up to the boot, and the magnets do the
rest.
The one thing worth checking first: if your boot lid is a non-metal or composite
material (increasingly common on some newer or lightweight-bodied cars), there may
not be enough metal behind the surface for a direct magnetic hold. A quick way to
check is to hold a fridge magnet against your boot lid where the plate sits — if it
grips, this kit will work the same way. If it doesn’t, you’ll need our Front Kit
instead (or two of them), since that version creates its own magnetic base rather
than relying on the bodywork.
DAY-TO-DAY USE
Once fitted, using it is exactly as simple as it sounds: press your plate onto the
brackets to attach it, and pull it away by hand whenever you want it off — to clean
behind it, switch to a show plate, or just give the car a proper wash without
working around a fixed plate.
WHY CHOOSE MAGNETIC OVER DRILLED OR ADHESIVE FITTING
A drilled or screwed rear plate is permanent — once those holes are in your boot
lid, they’re staying, whatever you decide later about the car or the plate itself.
Plain adhesive pads solve the drilling problem but create a new one: getting them
off again cleanly, without residue or paint damage, is genuinely difficult. A
magnetic mount avoids both issues, giving you a drill-free fit that stays properly
removable for as long as you own the car.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Clean the neoprene foam pads with warm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth —
avoid anything abrasive. Check periodically for grit or road debris caught between
the bracket and the boot lid, since a clean contact surface is what keeps the
magnetic hold strong over time.
REAR ONLY — WHAT IF YOU NEED THE FRONT TOO?
This kit covers the rear plate only. For the front, see our Front Magnetic Number
Plate Holder Kit — or if you’re doing both, our Magnetic Set covers front and rear
together at a better combined price than buying each kit separately.
MADE FOR PL8 FACTORY CUSTOMERS
If you’re ordering a new plate to go with this kit — whether that’s a Standard 2D
plate or something sharper like a 4D Gel finish — we make every style in-house at
our Ashford, Kent workshop, and can have both your plate and your holder kit ready
together. Free UK postage applies to every order.
