Every road-legal plate we supply is manufactured to BS AU 145e — the current British Standard for number plates — and carries the required maker’s mark and postcode showing it was made to that standard. The only exception is our Show Plates range, which is explicitly for off-road and display use only, not the road.

A road-legal UK number plate must:

• Use the correct approved character font and spacing — no stylised or custom lettering
• Show black characters on a white background at the front, and black characters on a yellow background at the rear
• Be made from a reflective material
• Carry the manufacturer’s name/trademark and postcode (the “maker’s mark”)
• Show the British Standard number (BS AU 145e) confirming compliant manufacture
• Not include background patterns, images, or symbols beyond a small number of permitted national flags/badges

Raised finishes like 3D, 4D and gel plates are legal as long as the characters themselves still meet these requirements — the raised effect is a finish, not a change to the character shape.

Not on a road-legal plate — the character font, spacing, and background colours are all set by law, and changing them would make the plate illegal to use on the road. If you want something more custom, that’s exactly what our Show Plates range is for.

No. Show Plates are made for display, drift days, private land, or off-road use — any colour, any font, any layout you like. They’re not fitted with the legally required maker’s mark or BS AU 145e stamp, and shouldn’t be used on a vehicle driven on public roads.

We need proof of your entitlement to the registration, plus photo ID:

• Your V5C (logbook), new keeper slip (V5C/2), or a retention certificate (V778) showing the registration
• A valid photo ID — driving licence or passport — matching the name on that document

This applies whether you’re ordering in-store or online. If you’re ordering online, you can upload photos or scans of these documents as part of your order.

Yes — most styles are made while you wait at our Ashford workshop, no appointment needed. Just bring your documents and ID (see above) and we’ll usually have your plates ready the same visit. If you’d rather order online, we make plates to order and post them out with free UK postage.

Yes, but the proof of entitlement documents (V5C, new keeper slip, or retention certificate) and photo ID still need to match the actual registered keeper of the vehicle the plates are for — that’s a DVLA requirement, not something we can work around, even for a gift order.

Double-check your registration carefully before ordering, since plates are made to order specifically for what you enter. If you spot an error shortly after ordering, contact us straight away — we may be able to correct it before the plate is made, but can’t guarantee changes once it’s already in production.

We don’t offer a fitting service ourselves, but we do sell everything you need to fit your own plate: number plate fixings (self-tapping screws with colour-matched caps), sticky pads for a drill-free fit, and magnetic number plate holder kits (front, rear, or as a set) for the quickest, most easily removable option. 4D plates use individually laser-cut acrylic characters bonded to the plate, standing genuinely raised off the surface rather than printed flat. We offer a few versions: standard 4D in gloss black, 4D Gel (the same laser-cut acrylic finished with a gel-domed top coat for extra depth and shine — our most popular style), and 4D 5mm Matte for a chunkier, glare-free look. All are fully road legal.

Yes — sized and spaced correctly to UK motorbike regulations, and available in any of our standard finishes.

Yes. Trailer plates use the correct squarer proportions rather than a standard car plate shape, and are available in any of our finishes — made to order the same way as our car plates.

2D is a flat printed finish — the fastest and most affordable option. 3D Gel adds a resin-domed layer on top of printed characters for extra depth and shine without full raised acrylic. 4D goes further still, using individually laser-cut acrylic characters bonded to the plate so they stand genuinely raised off the surface — available in gloss, gel-domed, or matte finishes. All are fully road legal; the difference is depth, shine, and price.

Our workshop is based in Ashford, Kent, and we supply customers across the county — including Canterbury, Folkestone, Maidstone, Tenterden, Hythe, Dover, Faversham and surrounding villages. We also post orders UK-wide with free postage, so you don’t need to be local to order from us.
